A MAN has been charged over an assault at Maitland Railway Station which left one person in hospital.

About 1.10am on Saturday September 15, a 45-year-old man was approached by another man while waiting at the station.
The 45-year-old was allegedly punched in the face and kicked.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended and located the injured man, who was treated by paramedics at the scene. He was taken to Maitland Hospital for further treatment.
An investigation into the incident was launched and on Sunday detectives arrested a 23-year-old Rutherford man in relation to the incident.
He was charged at Waratah Police Station with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was granted conditional bail to appear in Maitland Local Court on October 17.
