Lachlan Moore, Harrison Davis, Porschea Longbottom and Zalia Monkley head the title hopes of a strong contingent of riders from the Tenambit-Maitland BMX Club heading to Castle Hill BMX Club for the state chamiponship.
Moore and Davis are defending the coveted No.1 plates they won at last year’s titles, Longbottom and Monkely are back to go one better after finishing runners-up.
Davis won the 14 boys title last year and placed fifth at the Australian titles.
“I’ve had a podium finish at one of the national series events since then and have been riding well in the state series where I’m ranked No1,” he said.
On top of competition, the Maitland-Tenambit riders have been receiving intensive training to fine tune their performances at the state titles in the national and state series.
Moore, who won the 13 years title last year, said he was definitely benefitting from the extra training sessions and noted improvements in all aspects of his riding.
He said he was confident of defending his title, but in racing it came down to your performance on the day.
“You have to make sure you are as prepared as you can be going into the event and just keep focused on what you need to do.
“If you concentrate on what you need to do then the results will take care of themselves. It’s always exciting and I love the competition and striving to do your best.”
Eleven-year-old Longbottom is a previous state champion and has been riding since she was four.
“I love it. I’m hoping to go one better this year and win the title. I’m going to do my best.”
The team also includes Luke and Tyler Bellamy, Seth and Zane Bourke, Greg Boyce, Maxwell Campbell, Michael Challinor, Tamzin Cooper, Mark Fuge, Aisha and Cooper Greedy, Lara-Jane Haggarty, Ajay and Kane Halson, Ashlea Hennessy, Dean Johnston, Aston, Steve and Virginia Longbottom, Jeremy and Scott McGrath, Paul McLean, Isha Monkley, Matthew and Zachary Moore, Bowen and Darren Muncaster, Declan Northcott, Laura Parker, La’zayah and Tyra Roach, Naesha Russell, Edward and Georgie Venables, Matthew Verco, Craig and Jasper Walker.
