Council’s community and recreation services manager Laurie D’Angelo said the Shred was a youth activation event.
“Young people are the future of our city, so it is important that we support and encourage their contributions that they make to our community,” Ms D’Angelo said.
“Rutherford Shred will offer a wonderful way to connect with young people through their interests and passions and talk about issues that are important to them.
“It’s also a chance just to hang out and have a lot of fun.”
The event will feature skating demonstrations performed by local pro skaters from Grundy's Skate Store and interactive street art. There will also be a local DJ slinging tunes for attendees.
“There will be lots of cool activities for young people in Maitland to get involved with,” Ms D’Angelo said.
“It’s a great opportunity for young people to come together. We are looking forward to having a really good turnout.”
The free event drops in to Rutherford Skate Park on Thursday from 12pm to 4pm.
