New clubs to the competition are Pedens, from Cessnock, Port Stephens Pythons who are fielding junior teams for the first time, Hunter Valley Grammar School and Seaham.
Pedens joins fellow Cessnock clubs Wine Country and Greta Branxton, which fielded teams in last season’s competitions.
The competition starts this Saturday for under-9/10 through to under-15s with the under-16s officially starting last Saturday.
However, only one game was possible due to rain and grounds being too wet for play. In the game which went ahead, City United got off to a winning start beating Raymond Terrace by 43 runs.
Glen Findley, who had the unenviable task of putting together the 2018-19 draw, said there were some challenges this year with a stack of extra sides, four new clubs and some council works going on.
“A couple of the bigger clubs just ran out of suitable home venues and will have neutral venues or extra away games,” he said.
“I have kept the games as close to home as possible. There is also a couple of grades where I have swapped entire rounds to utilise the better/preferred grounds.”
