Lee-Anne McAllister has a very important message for people considering starting their own business, or for those who have already begun the journey.
“Don’t doubt yourself, back yourself,” Ms McAllister said.
Despite her 17 years experience in the legal profession, some people doubted the solicitor “had what it took” to head her own business.
But, after establishing McAllister Legal Services in March, she proudly claimed the award in the category of Aboriginal Business in this year’s Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards.

The win was wonderful confirmation that she is both an exceptional solicitor and businesswoman.
Helping people is so rewarding. I look back at the end of the matter and get to say ‘I really helped that person’.

“It is good to know that I have business skills across the board,” she said. “And winning this award, though humbling, certainly has been a big confidence booster.
“Given I’ve only been out on my own for six months, I was happy with being nominated and thought that in itself was a pretty big achievement.”
McAllister Legal Services helps clients with matters of family law, conveyancing, wills and estates, leases and local court appearances.
“I go to work because I love what I do,” she said. “Helping people is so rewarding. I look back at the end of the matter and get to say ‘I really helped that person’. My clients deal with me directly, so I can provide a real personalised service. I know what is happening with their matter every step of the way.”
