Maitland police said the incident occurred when a Nissan Patrol travelling on Regiment Road about 9.15pm Monday turned on its high beams.
The bright light illuminated a group of men standing in a driveway who took issue with the high beams, according to police.
It is alleged a man then walked out in front of the car and after approaching the driver’s side punched a man through the window.
Police said they also received reports of possible threats involving weapons but have been unable to confirm those reports.
Detectives are appealing for information.
Any information should be reported to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
