Among the 18 breweries pouring into Maitland Gaol for the event will be Hunter Beer Co, who have been taking part in the festival since its inception.
For head brewer Keith Grice, the craft beer weekend is his “favourite festival of the year”.
“We like to share the love locally. The move to Maitland Gaol has created an amazing atmosphere … with the stone walls and barbed wire,” he said.
“We not only take along our regular beers but we try to brew something new for the festival. This year we have two new beers which we are very excited about.”
The Pokolbin micro-brewery has developed two new beers specially for the festival including the dark Stone the Crows and fruity Super Happy Fun Times.
Mr Grice said the new Super Happy Fun Times beer would also include edible gold flakes.
“It’s a new style of beer which tastes like tropical fruit juice. It’s surreal. There will be gold dust coming out as you pour the beer,” he said.
“I expect it to be crazily popular.”
Indie favourites Cloud Control and Last Dinosaurs were announced as the musical headliners for the event earlier this year, alongside them will be local and regional support acts.
Maitland Council events coordinator Adam Franks said ticket sales had been strong with the Saturday program already booked out.
“We still have tickets for Sunday, which is traditionally the more family friendly and relaxed day of the festival,” he said.
“We try to mix up the offerings every year with different breweries and entertainment. The festival is in its 12th year … at the time there weren’t many craft beer events in the region so it’s quite an attraction.”
Mr Franks added the festival sells out well ahead of the weekend.
“It’s quite a big attraction for Maitland, especially being at the gaol,” he said.
“We invited all craft and independent breweries with some coming as far as New Zealand.”
The festival will return on the weekend of November 3 and 4 at Maitland Gaol.
