Firefighters received a call at 9.30pm about the blaze in Capper Street.
Fire and Rescue crews from Rutherford, Maitland and East Maitland responded and arrived to find the front of the house totally involved in fire.
After firefighters deemed there was no one inside, they got to work fighting the blaze from the front garden as the roof had collapsed.
The fire took about an hour to extinguish.
A Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the cause of the fire was unknown but was being investigated.
