Coming to the crease at the fall of the seventh wicket at Carmichael Park, 39-year-old veteran Cagney lived up to his nickname “Inzy” due to his powerful build. He did not disappoint in ripping the Wine Country attack to shreds, smashing 11 boundaries and clearing the fence seven times.
He was finally dismissed in the 39th over for 111 off just 68 balls.
Across the other side of the city at Jeffrey Park, Knox belted 17 boundaries and one maximum to finish with 105 off 113 balls against Peden’s Hotel White.
Greta/Branxton jumped to the top of the first grade ladder when they inflicted Mulbring’s first loss of the season in the highly anticipated clash at Mulbring Oval.
The home side batted first, but some very tight bowling saw them reeling at 9-104 in the 25th over. But in typical Mulbring fashion they found something when it was needed, with a 50-run final wicket stand between Darren Sutton (30) and Chad Lewis (13no) taking the score to 154.
In-form opener Drew Olsen (50) made a well-constructed half century. Co-skipper Nathan Holz (4-43 off 10) and Martin Shearer (3-37 off 10) did the majority of the damage for Blues.
Greta/Branxton eventually gained the upper hand to reach the modest target in the 39th over with just two wickets in hand. Holz completed a matching winning performance with an unbeaten 43, supported well by tail-enders Patrick Andrews and Martin Shearer (15 each), with openers Mark Bercini (24) and Joey Butler (14) making starts.
The Marlins’ wickets were shared between Willie Watson (3-42 off 10) and Ben Neaves (2-35 off 9.3)
Bellbird jumped to outright third but did not get it all their own way in their three-wicket win over Wine Country at Allandale Oval.
Wine Country batted first and were all out in the 38th over for 160. Dean Elliott led the way with 49, Mark O’Hara returned to form with 31, with Stephen Hedger (15) and Eian Harris (13) adding to the score.
Bellbird’s wickets were fairly evenly distributed between Elliot Gyler (3-36 off 10), Joey Main (2-48 off 10) and Nic Siers (2-20 off 6).
Bellbird reached the target in the 36th over for the loss seven wickets. Matt Fairlie led the way with 42, with Gyler (27no), Matt Schrieber (23), Siers (15) and Luke Weekes (13) doing enough to get the Tigers home.
Luke Jeans (2-36 off 10) and Brad Turner (2-27 off 9.3) picked up a brace of wickets each for the Wood Ducks.
Peden’s Hotel and Supporters fixture at East End was washed out.
