Hunter artists accounted for 15 nominations when the Country Music Association released its honour list.
Kurri Kurri’s Tori Forsyth, Cessnock’s Travis Collins, Mount Hutton’s Morgan Evans and Greta’s Lyn Bowtell all received three nominations, Newcastle’s Catherine Britt picked up two and Troy Kemp landed one.
It was the first time Forsyth, 23, has been nominated. She was “shocked” to hear her name in the categories of best new talent, female artist and alt-country album for her debut record Dawn Of The Dark.
“Getting in the best alt-country album [category] is the most exciting for me because I was so proud of the album,” Forsyth said.
Bowtell’s collaboration with Kevin Bennett and Felicity Urquhart, Weeds, was also nominated for best alt-country album. Bowtell is also contesting best group and vocal collaboration.
