Pet Insurance Australia has released a list of the most popular names and some of the more unusual choices for dogs and cats.
“This is a great time of year to celebrate our fantastic pet names,” said Pet Insurance Australia spokesperson Nadia Crighton.
“It’s always a crowd favourite to see who made the top 10 list this year.”
The trending pet name report stems from the data of approximately 150,000 pets, across Australia, who were newly insured in the past 12 months
“This gives us a wonderful indication of the trends when it comes to pet names across Australia.” Crighton says.
“There were certainly some new names that made the list including Willow and Cooper compared to last year,” she says.
One of the winners for female canines was Luna – a name chosen by Rutherford man Ethan Rumble for his three-year-old Labrador.
The most popular female canine names for 2018 are: Bella, Luna, Ruby, Molly, Coco, Daisy, Lucy, Lola, Rosie and Poppy.
The most popular male canine names for 2018 are: Charlie, Max, Archie, Buddy, Ollie, Milo, Oscar, Baily, Alfie and Cooper,
The most popular female feline names for 2018 are: Luna, Bella, Coco, Molly, Lilly, Cleo, Mia, Willow, Lucy and Lola.
The most popular names for male felines for 2018 are: Charlie, Simba, Oscar, Max, Milo, Leo, Jasper, George, Archie and, Tigger.
Some of the more unusual names for pets this season recorded by Pet Insurance Australia in 2018 are: Kiki, Narla, Arschar, Arya, Babushka, Moxi, Cheeky and Porkchop.
“Let’s not forget some Disney favourites including, Simba, who actually made the top 10 this year, Maleficent, Bambi and Tinkerbell,” Ms Crighton said.
