SES Maitland community engagement coordinator Alexandra Varley said the local emergency service responded to 30 call-outs in the Maitland area, and another 33 in Cessnock.
“All the jobs were storm-related with leaking roofs and fallen trees,” she said.
“There was no specific area that was worst impacted as the cells were so widespread. Flash flooding was present in low lying parts of Central and South Maitland and also properties in Gillieston Heights.”
Newcastle City, Tomaree and Singleton units also assisted in both Maitland and Cessnock. Over the weekend, Maitland copped a combined 36 millimetres of rain on Friday and Saturday, and then a 43 millimetres of rain on Sunday.
Ms Varley added people need to remain vigilant. “We are right in the middle of storm season and, even though it has been dry, it can still happen,” she said.
