The Inter City Pace's grip on Maitland continues with another big crowd at Maitland Showground for the heats of the time-honoured race on Saturday night.

The four heats drew quality fields from across NSW with the first two place-getters automatically qualifying and the two fastest third-placed horses also making the final and the Maitland Showground next Saturday night.
Maitland trainer Melanie Elder led the local charge with her four-year-old gelding Ashark driven to victory by her bother Brad in the fourth and final heat.
Ashark won by four metres from The Bus, trained by Mark Jones with the Cameron Davies-trained by Halfway Home third.
Pocket of Terror, trained by Kevin Hayes, won the opening heat with the Davies’ Camoroller second and Michael Elder’s Ashki third.
Trainer-driver Trevor Munday took out the second heat with Benalong Valley, ahead of Craig Cross’ Seeuinnashville and James Bates’ Megs Monaro.
The third heat was won by Inter-Dominion trainer Kevin Pizzuto’s Persimmon. Peter Hedge’s I’m Major Harry was second and the Sam Ison trained and driven Bassey was third.
