Reigning Australian champion Rohan Tungate has made a strong start to the 2019 Australian Speedway Championship finishing second on the opening night to a red-hot Max Fricke at Gillman Speedway.

Victorian Fricke, the 2016 World under-21 champion and four-time Australian under-21 champ, and Tungate both finished on 13 points after the heats and battled all the way in the final.
Former world and five-time Australian champion Chris Holder was third overall after progressing to the A-final from the B-final.
Holder finished the heats on 10 points after retiring from the opening heat race. He sits on 12 points after the first round.
Victorian Jordan Stewart finished on 11 points, after falling and being excluded from re-run of the final, and will be full of confidence going to his home track at Mildura for Saturday night’s second leg of the series.
Jack Holder is fifth on 11 points and Newcastle’s Sam Masters, the 2017 Aussie champion, is seventh overall equal on 10 points with Jaimon Lidsey (sixth).
Heddon Greta’s Josh Pickering was first reserve and picked up a point for a third placing in a heat.
The series moves to Mildura on Saturday, before Undera stages round three on Monday.
Round four takes place at new Aussie championship venue Albury on January 9, before the champion is crowned at Kurri Kurri on January 12.
