Some residents in parts of Dungog, Paterson and Martins Creek received notices advising of the power outage from 8.30am to 2.30pm on Thursday, January 17, in order to carry out essential maintenance work.
Sixty three customers in Glen William are without power today as vegetation management is carried out.
This sparked a social media appeal by some residents to have the planned outage rescheduled considering the expected heatwave.
Ross Berry, Acting Regional Manager North Coast for Essential Energy said affected customers are given at least four business days’ prior notice of any planned power interruption to allow alternative arrangements to be made.
“Essential Energy understands power interruptions can be inconvenient and unpleasant particularly during warmer temperatures, however maintenance work is necessary throughout the whole year to address defects which can be a risk to public safety and power reliability,” he said.
“Planned outages in the Dungog Shire local government area are proceeding at this stage but are being closely reassessed.”
Two of the outages occurring this week affecting Glen William, Martins Creek and Paterson are for vegetation work to reduce bushfire risk and to ensure the safety and reliability of the electrical network.
“Crews will work as quickly as safety will allow and additional resources have been arranged to assist with reducing the length of the power interruptions wherever possible,” said Mr Berry.
If the planned power interruption is to be rescheduled or cancelled, customers who are enrolled to receive SMS notifications will be sent a text message.
All other customers wanting confirmation can contact 13 20 80 on the morning of the scheduled power outage.

“Essential Energy apologises for any inconvenience and thanks customers for their patience and understanding,” said Mr Berry.
