A drop in world oil prices has lead to the affordability of fuel locally, said NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury.
“We’ve had a consistent fall in world oil prices,” Mr Khoury said. “Prices have dropped 40 per cent since November but they’ve gone up a little since then.”
Mr Khoury said prices were really high for the overwhelming majority of 2018, but weren’t predicted to fall quite as much as they have.
The average price of regular unleaded fuel in Maitland on Thursday was 121.3, while E10 was 120.4. Diesel sat at 141.9.
East Maitland was the place to fuel up with Quinn’s on Melbourne Street, Caltex, 7-Eleven and United all charging 120.9 for regular – the latter two also having the most affordable E10 (118.9) across the city.
In NSW, only Mittagong and the Central Coast were cheaper outside of Sydney, while Newcastle averaged about $1.24 on Thursday.
Mr Khoury said because the market was so volatile it was hard to predict how prices would fare from here, but didn’t expect prices to jump too much in the short term.
“We’re watching world oil prices pretty closely,” he said.
