A 59 year-old woman who was critically injured in a car crash that claimed the life of a man on Medowie Road on Monday is now in a stable condition at John Hunter Hospital, a spokesperson for the hospital has said.

Police and emergency services rushed to the scene around 11.20am Monday where they found a whitre hatchback had collided with a black SUV.
The driver and sole occupant of the hatchback, who was believed to be travelling north, died at the scene.
The female driver and passenger of the SUV, believed to have been traveling south, suffered multiple injuries and were treated by NSW paramedics at the scene before they were taken to John Hunter Hospital.
The 59 year-old woman, who suffered chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries, was said to be in a critical condition on Monday evening. Her condition had become stable by Tuesday afternoon.
The 22 year-old woman, who had been taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition, was no longer in the care of John Hunter Hospital medical staff on Tuesday, the hospital spokesperson said.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended and established a crime scene, where investigations continue. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
A spokesperson for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter said a paramedic and doctor were with the female patients when they were transported by road. The helicopter has been redirected to John Hunter Hospital to collect its medical crew.
