The 13-year-old, mum Denise and stepdad Shane took their little dinghy out for a spin on Australia Day and ended up with an entry for any What’s That Weird Stuff in the Water Award.
“We were out having a swim and our usual fishing competition where we have to land the biggest fish but always ends in who caught the most unusual fish,” Denise says.
“After a successful day of fishing, this was the catch of the day. Even the sea life were enjoying Australia Day.”
Denise says Kyle thought he had a snag before realising there was something big on the end of the line.
“His rod was really bending when it first came out, and we couldn’t make out what it was. We had a closer look and could see this octopus holding and wrapped around the bottle very tightly.
“We had to pry the beer bottle from him.
“We kept the bottle and released the octopus and let him go back to enjoying his day. No more drinking for him.”
