The RMS is about to undertake field investigations at the site, paving the way for the $17 million project which will reduce flooding and improve access for local communities.

The NSW and Australian governments are providing funding for the project.

Roads and Maritime Services is proposing to build a new, 900 metre section of Cessnock Road along a raised earth embankment at Testers Hollow, an RMS spokesperson said.

The new section of road will be built at a height to greatly reduce the risk of flood related road closures.

Site investigations, environmental assessment and design work are under way with planning expected to be completed by mid-year, the spokesperson said.

Roads and Maritime anticipates the upgrade design and environmental assessment will be placed on public display for community feedback later this year.

Roads and Maritime Services recently contacted residents advising of field investigations on Cessnock Road between Gillieston Heights and Cliftleigh from Tuesday, February 5.

Roads and Maritime Services told residents it is developing a preferred option to reduce flooding and improve access reliability along Cessnock Road at Testers Hollow.

Workers will carry out utility service work along Cessnock Road at Gillieston Heights and Cliftleigh in preparation for the planning stage of work for the upgrade.

They will work between 7pm and 4am weeknights, and expect to have work complete within a week.
