The son of Kinloch Brae and Cop A Sling had to do a lot of extra work from box eight and sat wide for most of the race before pulling away late to win the Out Of Range At Stud Stakes over 520 metres at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.
Steelcity Boxing’s time of 30.52 seconds was just over four tenths slower than his win at headquarters a week earlier, but he showed great tenacity to beat Major Innings from the kennels of leading Victorian trainer Jeff Britton.
Major Innings is part-owned by former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting.
Steelcity Boxing now has seven wins and two placings from 12 starts and has collected $21,450 for his connections.
Mackay hat-trick
Richmond Vale trainer Jason Mackay’s race team was in hot form with a hat-trick of wins at Maitland last Thursday.
Mackay’s team fired up to win races five, six and seven.
Zipping Bailey kicked off proceedings for Mackay when she took a rails run on the home turn to beat race favourite Lochinvar Dynamo in the Ladbrokes Multimaker Stakes over 450m by one and a half lengths in 25.23s.
Then red-hot $1.20 favourite Aston It Is made it a double for Mackay when she won the Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Stakes over 565m, beating the Vic Sultana-trained Cheeky Tunes by five and a quarter lengths in 32.07s.
The hat-trick came when Flowing won the Ladbrokes Dailey Video Stakes over 450m after punching to the lead on the first corner and holding off a strong challenge from Charmaine Field’s Rebel Sunrise to win by half a length in 25.65m.
Mackay went close to scoring a quadrella when his other runner on the day, Zipping Taylor, finished a head second to Tom Roche’s Kiarni Velvet in the Husqvarna Stakes over 400m.
Proctor lucky
Londonderry trainer Alan Proctor has earned the nickname Lucky for being the most prolific winner of the $50 NSW GBOTA Member Dog draw at Maitland each Thursday.
Proctor took the meaning of lucky to a whole new level last Thursday when that day’s Member Dog, Clark Road, showed his liking for the Maitland track to win the Heddon Greta Hotel Stakes over 400m in 23.11s and take home $900 for his connections.
