City United skipper Matt Trappell has put himself and his fellow top order batsmen on notice that they need to start scoring runs consistently.

Trappel believes his side is not far from turning around a form slump which has seen them win just one of four matches since the Christmas break.
“It would be nice to win a toss for once and not have to bowl first up all the time,” Trappel
“We haven’t won a toss and we’ve played on really good wickets every game. We’ve been bowling first and all the teams have been batting well against us.
“We’ve played some really good cricket and haven’t got the results but we need to work on our batting.
“Obviously Josh (Trappel) coming back for the rest of the year is going to strengthen our batting,
“It’s probably the only area where we haven’t been firing.
“The last couple of weeks we haven’t made 160 and it’s something that we need to look at improving.
“We’re still a good cricket team, we’ve still been playing really good cricket in the field.
“I’m pretty happy with our bowling and I thought our fielding was excellent on Saturday.
“We just need a couple of our top order batsman including myself to stand up and get some runs.
“Hopefully this game against Easts on a good Robins Oval, we can gain some confidence back.”
City’s bowlers have put them in a strong position in a number of games, however one win from four matches in 2019 has seen them go from outright leaders to sharing top spot with Thornton.

Thornton have made an unbeaten start to 2019 and made up 15 points on City.
With three rounds remaining a potential final round showdown looms between the two teams to decide the minor premiership.
Trappel is not looking beyond this round against Easts.
“We’re one from four after Christmas, there’s no point looking at that game unless we win this one.
“The comp is that close that anything could happen. There is scope for us to even miss the four.
“Easts have got some guys with a fair bit of first grade experience and no doubt we’ll have to be at our best again this weekend to beat them.
“Trent Park is the key to their batting and Josh Hicks can turn a game quickly.
“I might have to do a Tim Payne and try tossing with the other hand.”
