The program includes live streams from two world class festivals and a series of wonderful writers, local authors, local history and wellbeing events.
City librarian Keryl Collard said the program had been bringing the country’s best writers and storytellers to Maitland since 2008 and this year is no exception.
“We invite you to discover new perspectives and insights, international and local views, contemporary issues and ancient wisdom,” she said.
Visiting speakers in 2019 also include patron saint of the world’s backpackers and adventure travellers Tony Wheeler, Arab-Australian writer and founder of Sweatshop Michael Mohammed Ahmad along with swag of award-winning writers including Barry Maitland, Heather Rose, Michael Sala and Heather Morris.
Headline events from the Sydney Writers Festival will be live-streamed to Maitland over three days of the festival in May, and highlight sessions from the All About Women Festival will be streamed from the Sydney Opera House in March.
A special exploration of Aboriginal astronomy will be a highlight of the program, as well as insights into Maitland’s creative scene and a year in the life of Maitland’s 2018 Citizen of the Year, Amorelle Dempster.
The program is available at maitlandlibrary.com.au or in any Maitland City Library branch.
Early bird bookings by March 2 receive a 20 per cent discount and Friends of Maitland City Library receive a 10 per cent discount on all events.
