The widening reconstruction works form part of the upgrade of Athel D'Ombrain Drive project.
A council document said the Athel D’Ombrain Drive transport corridor was identified in Council’s Maitland Integrated Land Use and Traffic Study (MILUTS) and Council’s Central Maitland Structure Plan as a key inner city road connection.
“The construction work to date has resulted in part completion of a previously identified key inner city road connection and a major upgrade to the Maitland Railway Station transport interchange,” the document said.
The project is estimated to cost approximately $3.65 million but has only $2.46 million remaining in funds, leaving the $1.19 million short fall.
Construction on the western end of the project including the Maitland Railway Station Transport Interchange was completed in 2017.
The motion will be discussed on Tuesday night at council’s next meeting.
