Strong winds swept the dust band over from drought-stricken towns further west.
It made its way east, creating an orange tinge in the sky.
A number of keen photographers commented on The Maitland Mercury’s Facebook page that the images they captured didn’t do the orange sky justice.
Those outside the Hunter, even all the way to Queensland, were also sharing how different everything looked where they were.
The Bureau of Meteorolgy is expecting the dust to clear out in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, it’s been snowing in Tasmania.
