The combined Maitland/Newcastle team known as Pink Hunter Dragons were very competitive coming fourth and first in the heats on Sunday.
Hunter River Dragons spokesperson Irene Hemsworth said eight ladies from the Dragons paddled with Newcastle Dragons Abreast members.
Hemworth said the team finished third in the final and was just one-tenth of a second behind another Newcastle team which finished runners-up.
"We were especially pleased with our efforts as we only had one man paddling while other teams had more and one of our team was sick but still paddled regardless," Hemsworth said.
"It was a great achievement considering that we only got to train together as one team on a couple of occasions prior to the event."
The club as a whole and individual members have taken part in events across Australia and even overseas over the past 12 months.
Hemsworth said the club would be holding come and try days for beginners over the next two Sundays at Queens Wharf Morpeth.
She said the beginners sessions would start at 8.30am and were open to all ages from 12 years and upwards.
"No experience is necessary, just come along and enjoy yourself," she said.
