Mr Latham will be on the campaign trail in the city on Thursday when he will announce a new local One Nation candidate at Maitland Greyhound Track, 3:30pm.
Latham, now state leader of Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party, is a former Labor, then Liberal Democrat, now One Nation loyalist.
Latham's political career started in In 1987 when he was elected to Liverpool City Council, in Sydney's south-west, and was mayor from 1991 to 1994.
He had a departure from politics in 2005. Citing life-threatening illness and family concerns, Latham announced his resignation from the Labor Party leadership and from parliament.
Since leaving politics, Latham has worked as a journalist and political and social commentator.
In November 2018, Latham announced that he would stand as a Pauline Hanson's One Nation candidate for the upper house of the NSW senate. Latham is running on a platform of banning the burqa.
