It was also a day of remarkable individual efforts led by Maitland under-14 all-rounder Joe Hancock who smashed 178 off just 148 balls and took two wickets in his side’s 65-run win against Newcastle.

The under-13s created their own slice of history becoming the first Maitland team at that age group to win an Inter-District Cricket Association title after defeating Hornsby Red in a thrilling final by one wicket.

Maitland bowled first and restricted Hornsby to 5/165 off their 50 overs.

The youngsters held their nerve in a superb team effort with Isaac Edwards top scoring with 58 and Thomas Thorpe 25. 

After chasing down their target, Maitland players gathered in the centre of the ground to sing their victory son.

The Maitland Under-16 cricket team had a nine-wicket win against Upper Hunter in the Macquarie Generation Cup final at Lorn Park.

Cameron Wynn led the way with the outstanding figures of 6-23 off 9.4 overs.

 Alex Lidbury, Baylee Borrow, Lachlan Page and Luke Farthing picked up a wicket each as Upper Hunter was dismissed for 111 in 40.4 overs in a fine team effort.

Maitland reached their target in 30 overs with Luke Farthing scoring an unbeaten 48, Ben Crebert 33 not out and Baylee Borrow 26. 

Maitland under-12s closed out their season with victory against Central Coast.

Jett Saxby scored 55,  Will Parkinson 25 and Harry Dunn finished on 11 as Maitland posted 6/115 from their 40 overs.

Murray Woodfield took 2-4 off two overs and Will Parkinson 2-15 off five to lead the bowling attack. Harry Dunn had an excellent game behind the stumps taking two catches, making a stumping and two run-out  assists.

In the under-14s, Joe Hancock’s teammates got front-row seats to one of the most remarkable individual performances by a Maitland junior cricketer in a long-time as they finished their year with a 65-run win against Newcastle.

Hancock made a remarkable 178 not out and took two-wickets in what coach Alex Seamer said was the best individual performance he had seen at junior level.

But the popular Hancock was humble after his match-winning performance thanking his teammates for rotating the strike to allow him to dominate the team’s innings of 264.

“Joe was sensational today, but he is very much part of the team. They are a great bunch, it’s been a real pleasure to coach them,” he said.

Seamer said Hancock was probably the best all-round player to come through the Maitland junior ranks in the past decade.

“That includes Will Fort. Will is an exceptional young cricketer who has represented his country, but I think Joe shades him as an all-round talent,” Seamer said. 

“They are both great batsman, but Joe is also an excellent fast bowler and top fielder.

“He can manage an innings and raise the tempo. He made his 100 off 115 balls and scored the next 78 off 33.”
