Yet with all that convention, there is still room for new and exciting attractions.
On Sunday, Maitland Showground manager Fiona Aberneathy was still buzzing from the weekend that was.
She said numbers through the gates were on par with the previous year’s figures of 15,000.
In 2019, camel races debuted with much success – not only in captivating the crowd, but also through helping a good cause.
“They were fantastic – we auctioned off two heats for drought relief and raised about $1500,” Ms Aberneathy said.
“We’re certainly looking at running it again next year.
“It was a bit of fun and filled in the gaps for other things.
“We also had the RM Williams musical flag ride – everyone loved it.
“I think we’ve had a full entertainment program and kept everyone happy.
“I think the show is important, especially for somewhere like Maitiland that’s rapidly becoming suburban, to give people a chance to meet some animals.
“We’re continuing the tradition and it’s kind of county meets city.
“We’d like to thank everyone for their support and turning out in big numbers.
“We hope they come back next year.”
Another woman who’s still smiling from the events of the show is 2019 Maitland Showgirl Tamieka Lupinski.
After she was crowned on Friday night, she told the Mercury she nearly didn't enter the quest because it would force her to step out of her comfort zone.
“I’m usually such a shy person when I first meet people, and then I come out of my shell, but doing this and meeting new people has really brought out my confidence and made me feel more self-confident,” she said.
Macia Borowiec, of Abermain, was named runner-up and Jaslyn Waters, formerly of Tenambit, took the third place sash.
But the happiest girl of the weekend would have to be local woman Tamara.
The expectant mother was only anticipating a gender reveal at the show on Saturday night.
Out of nowhere, her partner removed his coveralls to reveal a shirt with the big words scrolled across it: Mara, will you marry me?
