The Bureau of Meteorology predicted a maximum of 36 degrees on Tuesday for Maitland and a high fire danger rating.
The forecast for Wednesday is hotter still, with a minimum of 19 and top of 38 degrees.
Thankfully, there will likely be some relief from the heat in the form of a thunderstorm.
There is a 90 per cent chance of rain in the afternoon and evening on Wednesday, with overnight temperatures dropping to between 18 and 21 degrees.
Thursday should be much cooler, with a maximum of 26 degrees predicted.
However, the cool weather will be short lived, with the temperature returning to higher than 30 degrees on Friday at a predicted maximum of 32.
