The 39-year-old actor said on Instagram that 30 minutes after taking off from Palm Springs in California, the "the plane wanted to start a fire" and had to land.
Momoa shared a video from the runway showing fire service trucks parked nearby, and joked: "Looks like we're driving."
The fire turned out to be a false alarm, according to Palm Springs firefighters, who shared a picture of a team member with Momoa on Instagram.
Momoa and his friends got a separate plane to Phoenix, Arizona and the actor shared pictures of his brother and mother.
