A modern comedy of manners without manners, it centres on an evening in the lives of two yuppie couples who meet to discuss a playground incident. Alan (Alastair Anderberg) and Annette’s (Millie Chorlton) son hit Michael (Alexander Simpson) and Veronica’s (Leilani Boughton) son in the face with a stick, resulting in broken teeth.
The four agree to discuss the incident civilly, but, as the night wears on and drinks are imbibed, the polite veneer breaks down.
They agree to discuss the incident civilly, but as the night wears on and drinks are imbibed, the polite veneer breaks down.
Winner of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Play, God of Carnage was inspired by a real-life experience and suggests that our civilised trappings do a poor job of hiding our shortcomings.
Director Matthew Collins has been involved in the Repertory Theatre for many years.
Tickets are $18. Book at www.maitlandreptheatre.org or at Maitland Visitor Information Centre on 4931 2800.
The play opens on Friday March 22, and continues until March 30 on Friday and Saturday evenings with one Sunday matinee.
