Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer than anywhere else in the world. This means that the average Australian is 13 times more likely to develop melanoma than the global average.
Getting your skin checked on a regular basis is a priority and the younger you start the better.
Bravo Health and Skin opened its doors to the East Maitland community in January with the vision of providing the best medical services in the area.
The experienced team focus on all aspects of family medicine, skin cancer and cosmetic medicine.
Having taken up residence in High Street and after two and a half years of extensive renovations, the large period building has been carefully restored and modernised to offer a fully equipped state of the art facility, including an onsite pathology service.
There's also onsite car parking and a local chemist nearby, with local allied health facilities, giving patients ease and convenience.
The team of GP's with over 30 years of combined experience have extensive knowledge in both men's and women's health and skin cancer treatment as well as cosmetic procedures.
With ample consultants rooms and an on-site nurse, melanomas can be removed at the practice with no need for a referral.
As an accredited skin cancer doctor from the Skin Cancer College of Australia, Dr Wendy Bravo also has a Diploma of Cosmetic Medicine awarded by the Australian College of Aesthetic Medicine (ACAM).
She says younger Australians need to take care of their skin.
"It's really important to get your skin checked so that early signs of potential melanoma can be detected and treated before they pose a serious risk.

"We regularly see patients as young as 18 years here with damage from too much time tanning." She said.
The practice will also offer a cosmetic clinic for patients seeking anti-wrinkle injections, acne and scar needling, skin tag removal and cosmetic mole removals situated upstairs and with a discrete separate entrance.
The practice welcomes new patients and is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8.30am to 5pm, Thursday from 8.30am to 3pm and Saturdays between 8am and 10am.
