The contrast in styles of the two teams City United and Kurri Weston could hardly be more stark.

City United grinding, controlled and unrelenting and Kurri Weston explosive, unpredictable and capable of snatching victory from any predicament.

"It's going to be a ripper game," Kurri Weston skipper Josh Tuckwell said of his side's first appearance in the grand final since Weston Workers (Maitland) and Kurri Titans (Cessnock) made the big game in their first year as a merged entity. 

"I agree, I think it will go down to the wire and will be really close with plenty of twists and turns," City captain Matt Trappel said as his side prepares for their return to the decider after winning the competition in 2016-17.

It's a very different City United side from the team that defeated Northern Suburbs that year.

Trappel's brother Josh returned to Maitland cricket this season after starring in the Newcastle competition, experienced duo Michael Heinrich (Kurri Weston) and Ricky Dent (Thornton) and premier paceman Tim Baker are in their second year with the club.

Kurri Weston are also a different side this season with teenage firebrands Jack Sylvester and Isaac Barry joining experienced pace duo Alex Seamer and Steve Abel and Liam Neild adding versatility in attack with his spin and consistent middle-order runs.

"It's two years since we won it. It's always good to be back in the grand final, I'm really looking forward to it," Trappel said.

"It's a big match. If you can bat out your 80 overs you are obviously going to be in a good position. The grand final is about playing better cricket for a long period.

"We've both got good teams, we are both capable of winning it's just a matter of  who turns up and plays best on the weekend."

Tuckwell said Kurri Weston would not depart from their exciting brand of cricket.

"We know if we turn up and play aggressive anything can happen," he said.

"We can score runs and take wickets very quickly, but it can also go the other way."

Trappel agreed with Tuckwell's assessment of Kurri Weston.

"That's Kurri Weston, they have strike power from one to 11 and they can play that style of cricket.

"We're a bit more on the other side. We are a bit more of a grinding team and play hard cricket.

"Both of our strengths is going to make it an exciting and unpredictable game."

"We can take confidence from our win against Norths going into the grand final.

"On Saturday and Sunday it will be a really tight contest."
