Occasional showers persisted in the early matches but when you're nine-years-old and you haven't played your favourite game for more than six months their is no dampening enthusiasm.
The netball association committee arrived at 7.30am to get the day up and running and persistent showers forced them to cancel games scheduled for 9am.
But by 9am they were able to post the news everyone wanted to hear and from 10.30am it was let the games begin.
It's an earlier than normal start to Maitland netball this season to allow construction from September on upgrading courts at a cost of $1.2 million from September.
This year more than 230 teams and 2000 players are taking part in the competition, with players aged from five and six through it's none of our business.
