On Thursday, students at East Maitland Public joined hundreds of NSW schools in an attempt to break the record of the highest number of children eating vegetables simultaneously. In 2018, more than 302 schools and 50,260 children participated.
While the numbers aren't in for this year, based on the smiles on student faces at East Maitland it's clear the morning was a success.
The Big Vegie Crunch is a school-based event which coincides with Vegetable Week.
Teacher Alison Williams said lessons accompanied the morning, with children learning educational songs and activities about healthy eating.
"It's important to promote healthy lifestyle - they take it home to their families and get them talking about the right foods to eat to keep their bodies strong and healthy," she said.
Students brought food from home and teachers passed around herbs from the school garden.
