The annual recycling initiative was held on Saturday, April 6 with 437 motor vehicles delivering 897 mattresses to Maitland City Council's Works Depot at Metford.
Council's Waste Services Coordinator Elfi Blackburn said while this year's event was not a record it was well supported.
"It went really well. In terms of vehicle and mattress numbers, we were down a little but not by much."
Council has received more than 7000 mattresses in ten musters since October 2014, and more than 2000 vehicles have also brought in mattresses since November 2016.
"The extension of the hours worked the trick. Last year, we had a lot of traffic issues with a lot of traffic banked up almost out to the highway because the drop-off period was only three hours," Ms Blackburn said.
"So we decided to extend the hours. It was exactly how it turned out to be ... the traffic moved quickly and smoothly. We had a few interesting vehicles including a fire truck and army amphibious vehicle."
Each household in the Maitland local government area has the opportunity to recycle up to four mattresses as part of the muster.
Cot mattresses, innerspring mattresses and ensemble bases are accepted, however a mattress with an ensemble base will be counted as two items.
The muster is an opportunity for residents to do their bit for the environment by simply recycling something they might not use anymore, free of charge. To participate in the initiative, proof of residence in the Maitland local government area is required at the time of drop off.
