When these All Saints College students learned their mate Patrick Wheeler was battling cancer they sprang into action.
They united with another six friends and shaved their heads as a show of support for the year 12 student who is receiving treatment for liver cancer at Westmead Children's Hospital in Sydney. Three hairdressers from RNB Hair and Beauty donated their time to transform the group.
But the support didn't stop there.
Nicholas Foxall, who has known Patrick since year 7, created a Go Fund Me Page to raise money to support him and his family.
He thought the page might raise $1000, but the act sparked so much community support that the tally is now more than $17,500.
That remarkable effort has taken place in three weeks.
"I told my friends to share it on their Facebook pages and within the first hour it had already broken the $1000 goal, which was great to see," Nicholas said.
I thought if we were going to shave our heads we might as well try to raise some money as well to help. It's inspiring for Pat and his family as well - they can see there are a lot of people out there who are willing to help.
Nicholas said a few of them recently went to Sydney to visit Patrick in hospital and he was in good spirits.
Patrick was diagnosed during the Christmas holiday break and has not been able to return to school this year.
All Saints College principal Tim Cleary and Head of School Marc Romano have praised the group for their leadership skills and compassion toward Patrick and his family.
The money will go a long way in many ways. We are very proud of these boys, they have initiated this and they are standing up for one of their mates who is in a time of need,Head of School Marc Romano
"They are showing real leadership and real camaraderie, we are really proud of them.
"They have brought the community together - parents, teachers, friends, everyone has come together and it's wonderful to see."
