Mayor Loretta Baker said she was "absolutely overwhelmed by the representation" by members of the public at the Maitland service.
"We must never forget [the Anzacs'] sacrifice," she said.
"I am heartened and assured by the number of people here that we never will."
Gresford RSL Sub Branch organised the Paterson event which drew a crowd larger than previous years on a cool but clear twilight which made way for a glorious sunrise.
People from young to old participated in the Kurri Kurri march, including the scouts, school children, the Cessnock Pipe and Drum Band and Defence veterans.
Veteran Max Lantry has been involved in organising the Morpeth event for 24 years and was pleased to see mother nature had granted his wish for a sunny day.
"I'd like to thank all of those in attendance it's an absolutely magnificent effort. I'd like to thank those who took part in any way, and believe me, there is a lot of work behind the scenes, there are a lot of people involved and they do a fantastic job," he said.
The New England Highway was blocked off as a huge number of people marched to the East Maitland service.
The service has become a very popular one in Maitland in recent years.
