Border collie pup Asha broke both legs on her left side after owner Hamid Aghaei pushed her off his bed for urinating on it in December 2018.
Despite limping for two days the puppy wasn't taken to a vet until RSPCA inspectors arrived at the 21-year-old's Artarmon home following a report of animal cruelty.
The RSPCA on Thursday said the dog would have been in constant, serious pain from the moment her wrist, hip and ankle broke.
Aghaei on Wednesday was sentenced to a 10-month intensive corrections order, fined $5000 and ordered to submit to a full psychiatric assessment.
At Downing Centre Local Court he was also placed on a two-year good behaviour bond and banned from owning an animal for two years.
Aghaei said he hadn't taken the injured dog to a vet because he was waiting for a Centrelink payment to get health insurance, the RSPCA said.
Surgery to repair the puppy's legs left her with a permanent disability and, after the rapid onset of serious mental health issues affecting her ability to interact with humans, the puppy was euthanised.
RSPCA NSW deputy chief inspector Aaron Purcell said the court outcome sent a "strong message" that pet owners should immediately pursue vet treatment for seriously injured animals.
