Hosted by the Hunter Valley Avicultural Society, there will be up to 2000 birds of all colours and sizes for sale at Cessnock's Civic Indoor Sports Centre.
President Paul Stevens said the one-day event was the 20th in the club's history, and they were expecting thousands through the doors.
"It's hard to estimate but we usually get about 1500 to 2000 people through on the day," Mr Stevens said.
"It's a great day. We are very proud of it because our sale is one of the biggest and oldest."
The bird sale was established in 1999, and annually has nearly 2000 birds available for purchase.

"We have sellers coming from across the country," Mr Stevens said.
"We have people coming as far as Victoria and Queensland, and they keep coming back because its such a successful sale. It's a fantastic event."
Birds will be for sale from $5 and up, but there will also be trade tables with accessories available for purchase and refreshments.
The Hunter Valley Avicultural Society meets monthly at Telarah Bowling Club and is one of the most active avicultural societies in Australia, with about 200 members.

The stadium is located on Mount View Road. The bird sale will run on Saturday, May 25 from 10am to 2pm and public entry is $3 per person.
Mr Stevens said the club was also on the look out to recruit younger members into the hobby.
"We need to get the younger people coming through because otherwise it is going to die out," he said.
"Our club is trying to promote aviculture as a hobby."
Anyone interested in joining is encouraged to come along to the bird sale in Cessnock and chat to the members.
Mr Stevens said as part of a push to raise the profile of the hobby, the club is hosting their first convention at Telarah Bowling Club in August.
"We will have 10 quality speakers over the two-day event," he said.
The 'Wings 2019' convention will run August 17 and 18. The cost is $200 per person including a two-course dinner and other meals.
