Barton was informed of the news this week, with a ceremony to be held in Putrajaya in Malaysia in August.
It follows his induction last year into the Australian Hall of Fame.
It is understood Mr Barton won't be able to attend the event, but there will be a presentation for him in Australia at a later time.
Aside from his Australian and World Hall of Fame awards, Barton also was named the inaugural member of the newly-conceived pioneer category of the Waterski and Wakeboard Australia Hall of Fame.
It was a special moment for him.
He said at the time: "It is probably up there as my highest achievement. To be the first pioneer recognised is a big deal to me. It's something that can't ever be taken away from me."
Three times he had previous been nominated for the International Waterskiing and Wakeboarding pioneer Hall of Fame, but without success.
Much of that has to do with there not being an official world championships during his heyday.
His career peaked during the late 60s and early 70s, and he was recognised as the number one skiier in the world between 1967 to 1972.
