The Magpies will be favourites but will need to be at their best, football manager Mick Mirisch said.

Mirisch said Thomson and Broadley were both five to six weeks away from returning to action and the Magppies would also be without Sean Pratt, who is heading overseas on holiday on Sunday, if they progress to round seven.

He said Maitland coach Mick Bolch had watched the Bombers on Sunday and had been impressed with the way they played.

"They are seven wins from seven games, so they can play. They are scoring plenty of goals and have got a good defence as well," he said.

"There are no easy games in cup ties, anything can happen on the day as we know from two years ago when we were pushed by Byron Bay in this round before getting the win."

Maitland and Boambee's encounter is one of four games at the Lake Macquarie facility on Saturday.

The winners will go into a draw on Saturday for the round seven encounters which will be held on Monday in the case of a win by one of the two North Coast teams or on Tuesday or Wednesday night in all Hunter fixtures.

Maitland, who are sitting fourth on the NPL table with two games in hand of their rivals, set their goals pre-season to make the round of 32 and to take out the NPL title.

"Our depth will be tested over the next few weeks but we will be looking to sign at least two players in the upcoming transfer window," Mirisch said.

"Winning titles and progressing in cup competition is all about depth. It's about a whole squad rather than who starts on a particular day.
