Well it may be down to some simple yet common mistakes on your CV.
Having an impressive CV or Resume doesn't mean getting creative with crazy fonts, including photos or 'other' ideas to get you noticed, it's simply a matter of being clear and concise.
Mel Flavell, Managing Director of Frontline Retail Recruitment has spent 17 years sifting through literally thousands of CVs.
From senior management to first applications, she's seen it all and not all of it is pretty.
She shared her top tips for a good CV.
- Always check and re-check spelling
- Are your details correct and at the top of the page?
- Start with your work history from current or most recent position backwards.
- Keep it simple: one font, in black and justified to the left.
- List your responsibilities in bullet points and cover everything you were accountable for.
- Education and achievements should follow the employment history.
- Try to keep your CV to three pages, anything more is too long and may not get read.
- Only write a cover letter if it is requested, otherwise it won't get read.
- Referees should be people that you have reported to directly. Either list names and contact details or leave off your CV.
