The East Maitland jam, relish and chutney making veteran shared with us some of her top tips for a good marmalade ahead of Maitland's inaugural marmalade competition.
The Friends of Grossmann House have announced they will hold the first Maitland Marmalade Competition, as part of the 2019 Church Street Spring Festival.
Margaret has been making jams for more than 50 years. She was drawn to making marmalade when she lived in Bolwarra and was surrounded by fruit trees.

Over three weekends in October, starting October 12, the Church Street heritage precinct of Grossmann and Brough houses and St Mary's Anglican Church will celebrate the change of seasons with Spring-related events, involving a number of local like-minded community groups.
"We are calling jam makers, who will be readying their jars for the marmalade making season, to put on their best aprons and make their contributions for the Maitland Marmalade Competition," said Friends of Grossmann House representative Holly McNamee.
There are five categories: Orange, grapefruit, any other citrus, three citrus fruits, and marmalade with a twist. Entry fee is $1 a jar.
For entry forms email grossmann@nationaltrust.com.au or Margaret on 4930 0270. Entry forms need to be in by October 11, for delivery of the marmalade on October 17, and judging on October 18.
