As part of the motion, Cr Griffin is seeking support to explore the option of rezoning the reserve (P1) to park (P2).
"This park is a long time in the making. For more than 30 years there has been talk of developing this land as a community park. I think it's time we listen to the community and get on with the job," he said.
"The reserve has one of the most scenic views in Maitland. It over-looks the farmland to the south of the historical Morpeth township. It is quite a peaceful and beautiful place which would make the perfect spot for Morpeth families to bring their children."
"Presently it is just an empty patch of grass. Hopefully we can finally progress with reclassifying the site as P2, the first step to place activation of the reserve."
If successful, the report will come back to council in November.
