Mr Sala's novels are described as tense and moving, and explore families, the choices they make, and the consequences that result.
His novels are emotional and poetic.
- Keryl Collard
Set in Newcastle, the novels evoke a strong sense of place, vividly bringing to life the wild, beautiful and sometimes dangerous Newcastle of decades past.
His award winning first novel, 'The Last Thread', is based on his own upbringing, tracing a boy's journey into adulthood against a backdrop of family secrets, betrayals and unhealed wounds.
His most recent book, 'The Restorer', is a taut, emotional story about a fractured family trying to build a new life and find their own sense of healing.
"We are excited to have Michael Sala appear as part of Maitland City Library's Look Who's Talking program," Keryl Collard, Manager Gallery and Libraries said. "His novels are emotional and poetic, and audience members will be treated to a powerful but sympathetic insight into experiences of family life."
Mr Sala was born in the Netherlands and teaches Creative Writing at the University of Newcastle.
His talk will begin at 6pm.
