Courtesy of their top-two finish CMC have a second chance to qualify for their first grand final after two narrow misses and will meet The George Tavern, Hills opponent in the past four grand finals, in next Saturday's preliminary final.
Hills shooter Mel Morris admitted there were a few nervous moments for her side when Maitland City started strongly and took an early lead.
"Maitland City stuck with us for most of the game yesterday, it was only in the third quarter that we took away a little lead and were able to build on it from that," Morris said.
"We were down at one stage by five goals we were struggling to get our act together.
"Once we started to play smart and for each other we started to get it together.
"We can tend to get caught up in the opposition's game and try to play at their tempo.
"Once we realise that we can slow down and pull back to our game then that's when we can take it away."
Morris said it had been a disjointed season for the team with byes, breaks and forfeits.
"With the byes, weeks off and a couple of forfeits it really doesn't feel like we've had a full season," she said.
"It takes a good first half to get going at the moment as we've had such an interrupted run with bye and forfeits."
Morris said whoever wins through will be a strong opponent in the grand final.
"Club Maitland City had had been up and about all year and The George have definitely picked up their game at the back end of the season and are a hot contender," she said.
Morris said Tegan Dennis had been a key addition the squad this year.
"We've got a few out because they are having babies but we picked up Tegan in the defensive end," she said.
"Tegan and Tiarne as sisters just reading each other so well.
"Having lost one player from each third hasn't meant a great deal of a shake-up, it's balanced across the team we were able to continue on without any issues in covering players.".
