A first half penalty to Maitland's Joel Wood and three second-half goals in five minutes from the 72nd minute left the two teams with their third draw of the season.
Krisitan Brymora headed home from inside the 18-yard box to get Magic back on level terms in the 72nd minute mark.
But just two minutes later Nick Cowburn smashed home a volley from 15 metres out to re-establish a one-goal buffer for the Magpies.
Another two minute and another goal, this time from Magic skipper Josh Piddington who slammed the ball past Maitland keeper Matt Trott from close range after being given a fraction of space.
Both teams' defences looked under pressure and both teams' attacks looked like scoring at any moment.
Cowburn was in everything across the middle with the Swan borthers and Zac Thomas was Maitland's best at the back.
The Magpies host Magic in the second leg of the semi-final at Cooks Square Park next Sunday at 3pm.
