The Maitland edition of the Hunter Poetry Slam Heats will be on Thursday, September 5, from 6pm, at The Bikesmith & Espresso Bar.

Poets will be able to sign up from 5.30pm.

What is a slam poem?

Contestants take the stage, grab a mic and share their poetic brilliance for two minutes.

Winners from the heat will progress to the regional finals in Newcastle.

If they do well there, they will continue on to the state and national finals before the quest to become the national champion.

If you think you have what it takes, bring your friends and family and poetic skills
