Crews arrived on the scene around 4.50pm and began efforts to control the burn, which had blackened about nine hectares near the Gillieston Heights baseball field. The fire burned toward the intersection of Ryans and Kiah roads before it was brought under control.
"It was spreading rapidly considering we just had rain," an RFS spokesman said.
"A couple of properties came under threat, but there was no damage to properties other than a couple of back fences burnt."
It took seven RFS crews and five Fire and Rescue crews to get the upper-hand on the blaze.
By about 6.20pm crews had the fire contained and the site was declared safe at 7pm. It burnt through a total of 13 hectares.
The fire has been deemed non suspicious and is believed to have started after a machine malfunctioned and ignited the blaze.
